Olive Harvest 2025 — The Story of Our Most Successful (and Most Challenging) Harvest Yet
Rain, breakdowns, challenges... nothing could stop us from completing this year’s olive harvest! Read all about how it went. ✅
The largest city on the Istrian peninsula is always a great summer destination, but this year – 2021 – the reasons for choosing Pula are undeniable. With beautiful beaches, clear sea, monumental cultural heritage, excellent wines and top quality olive oils, enjoyment is guaranteed.
While the world fears a new influx of new COVID-19 strains, the green Istria is a peaceful zone. The parties may be quieter, the nights quieter. Still, there is enough buzz in the town to remind us of the times when we wore masks only for masquerades. This is an area where the epidemic is well kept under control and preventive measures are respected. The anxiety that has flooded many popular world destinations does not live here. We believe it will stay that way.

There are few larger towns that can boast of beautiful and diverse beaches such as Pula has in abundance. Since at the city limits we see a marina, fishing boats and a shipyard, we might think that the beaches are far away. This is really not the case. Only ten minutes from the Arena, another world starts. Miles of diverse beaches where the sea is without exception of top quality. The association is more of an island destination than the largest town and the center of a Croatian county.

Many years have passed since world stars like Elizabeth Taylor shone under the Pula sky. Nevertheless, this outdoor stage is still a paradise for film lovers. We all crave movies. Anyone who has seen the film on the big screen, on a warm night, sitting inside the Roman Colosseum, will not forget it even when the air-conditioned cinemas start to be filled up with blockbusters again. Although mostly Croatian films are on programme, this is really no obstacle for any English-understanding person to enjoy them. All movies are subtitled. And the icing on this magnificent film treat is the fireworks that are a traditional part of the opening ceremony.

During the film festival in the Arena, the Wine City is in the immediate vicinity. Istrian wines have found their place on the world wine scene and have made their way to the wine lists of many prestigious world restaurants. The open-air wine bar in the park near the Arena offers the perfect refreshment on festival nights. Top wines, great atmosphere, enjoying the outdoors. In a word – perfection!

And while you are in Istria, there is no point in not tasting a product that Istria has been the best in the world for years now. In terms of quantity, small Istria cannot be put on the same level with any other olive-oil superpower in the world. However, the quality of Istrian extra virgin olive oils on a global scale is a powerful force to be reckoned with. Numerous Istrian olive oils in the world’s most famous guide Flos Olei, as well as gold awards at the highest-quality competition in New York, clearly show that Istrian olive oil is a world hit.

Because of all this, it’s time to turn off the TV, take a break from the awful news and visit Pula. After a day spent on the beach and a great dish spiced with the best extra virgin olive oil, with a glass of wine and a movie under the stars, you will get the long-desired break from the burdening agenda.
