GOLD FOR EVOO BILINI IN NEW YORK 2021

The New York Olive International Olive Oil Competition (NYIOOC) is the largest and most prestigious competition of extra virgin olive oils. Its annual list of award winners is an authoritative guide to the world’s best olive oils and the hard-working olive growers who produce them.
As we write this post, the NYIOOC 2021 competition is still ongoing. Due to epidemiological measures, it is held virtually, as well as so many other manifestations this (and last) year.
We have just been informed that our extra virgin olive oil Bilini has won the Gold Award at the world’s largest olive oil competition ?
After the extremely demanding 2020, where everything was in question:
- will there be enough fruit?
- even if there is enough fruit, will there be workers at disposal to carry out the harvest?
- how will we deal with that damn covid pandemic? Will there be problems with workers’ coordination?
- how will we handle olive processing? Will we unload olives into olive mill with masks on our faces? What if the government proclaims lockdown at the time of harvest?
Fortunately, the harvest went well. There was enough fruit and we were fortunate that our oil-mill partners were able to accompany us with extremely fast and high-quality processing, thus we once again made top-quality EVOO Bilini.
NYIOOC 2021 – The registration process
As soon as we noticed that the organizers of the New York International Olive Oil Competition communicated the opportunity to apply for the 2021 competition, we began our own preparations but also took care to inform the rest of the Croatian olive growing community about this.
As usual, we prepared two bottles of olive oil Bilini, 250 ml each.
You may have read our last year’s article about how our bottles arrived in New York too late to be accepted for NYIOOC 2020, given that the impending pandemic disrupted postal services around the world (the U.S. was no exception).
Naturally, this year we feared that the package wouldn’t arrive on time. Fortunately, everything went well.
Just like in previous years, this year we did not sleep before the competition. “Are we going to win a medal?” “What if they don’t like our oil this year?” … these are all tough questions plaguing olive growers struggling to anticipate results in such a prestigious competition.
Slowly, day after day, came May 24th. In the afternoon hours Vedrana received an email from the organizers …

These three traits are a trademark of the NYIOOC competition. At the same time they fantastically outline the life of olive growers. It’s nice to be outdoors and work in an olive grove. Nice, but also hard. For this reason, it is important that recognition comes for all the work invested throughout the year.
